Benzodiazepine Blues

I need about thirty drops of bromazepam to stay well under
Calm in a silent house, listening to the universe buzz
Nondescript, unexplored. I need the downers
Before somebody finds me and disclose all his shiny ideas to me
While people come and go in the street, and order dinner at some China restaurant
Golden Dragon, I got the benzo blues
Whiskey oh whiskey makes me walking nervous, planning drunken plans
Benzos make me sit down on a chair and let the Earth roll or halt
Since I don’t care, I got the benzo blues
Bluer than my eyes and yours, bluer than Valium tablets
So blue it makes me drowsy and slurry
O West you can perish, rot under your sodium lights
While I sleep like the cicada under the dirt
Dreamt I was at a Conoco station where nobody ever comes, doing the night shift
Feet on the desk, my water glass smelling of blackberry
(that’s the scent they put in, otherwise it tastes bitter)
Then you would come (I don’t know you, yet)
Buy a pack of Lucky Strikes
And proceed back into the night
As I sang my benzo blues to the milky way
